A YOUNG mum has thanked hospital staff in Sheffield for diagnosing her with a rare form of cancer which mimics pregnancy.
Frankie Wedgewood, aged 22, and her fiancee Will, 25, had their first child, Freddy, 18 months ago - but six months later, Frankie was told she was pregnant again.
But the nursery nurse was convinced she wasn’t carrying a child, and scans found no sign of a baby. Medics at Weston Park Hospital then discovered Frankie had choriocarcinoma, a cancer which produces the pregnancy hormone HCG.
She underwent treatment, and is now recovering.
“It was all a bit of a shock, but I felt in safe hands. All the staff were great and explained everything really well,” said Frankie.
