A dance troupe will be bringing a little street style to an outdoor concert in the Peak District in aid of Sheffield cancer patients.

DanceDaze, formed by Dronfield teacher Rich Hawke, has nine complete dance crews performing a range of styles, from breakdancing to hip-hop moves.

The group will take to the stage next month in Castleton as part of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity’s musical event, Proms in the Peaks.

Rich said his dancers will ‘offer something a bit different to the line-up’.

“In contrast to the singing performances, the dancers will hopefully encourage the audience to get out of their seats and get into the dancing spirit,” he said.

“The dancers come from various locations across the region which all benefit from the world-class cancer care provided by Weston Park Hospital.”

Rich, a PE teacher at Stonelow Junior School, formed DanceDaze in 2006. Its popularity has grown ever since, and members recently performed in front of more than 20,000 supporters at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium.

Dancers’ ages range from seven to 22, and the group’s choreographers have appeared on the Sky One programme Got to Dance, as well as BBC Three show Move Like Michael Jackson.

Proms in the Peaks takes place on September 7 in the grounds of Losehill Hall, featuring appearances from tenor John Hudson and soprano Deborah Norman.

Cream teas and Pimm’s will be served throughout the day, and guests are encouraged to bring along picnic hampers and chairs to enjoy the genteel atmosphere. The music starts at 2.30pm, but gates will open at 1pm for picnickers.

Tina Harrison, the charity’s deputy director, said: “As it’s our first event in the Peak District, we hope local people will join us for what promises to be an extraordinary afternoon in support of a vital and worthy cause.”

n Tickets cost £15, concessions £13. Visit www.promsinthepeaks.org.uk to book.
