HOSPITAL nurse Joanne Wilkinson was on a high after winning an award for her work at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

As well as being presented with a Respect Carers Award by the Green Burial Park at Bawtry, Sister Wilkinson also enjoyed a flight over Doncaster in a helicopter as part of the prize.

The certificate was presented at Doncaster’s Mansion House by someone else who commands respect, Ben Parkinson.

The soldier - the most severely wounded to have survived the war in Afghanistan, after losing both legs in a land mine explosion in 2006 - was awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours list for his military charity work.

Sister Wilkinson was nominated for her hard work, dedication and talent. The award is given to honour care workers for their roles in the community.
