Three 21-year-olds from South Yorkshire have had lots to celebrate after losing more than 17 stone between them to reach the finals of a national slimming competition.

Nicole Foster, from Rotherham, Adam Carter, from Sheffield, and Grace Peacock, from Barnsley, were all delighted to make the final 44 in Slimming World’s Young Slimmer of the Year 2014 competition.

They won through to the final out people from 11,000 Slimming World groups across the UK and Ireland.

The competition recognises the enormous achievements of young people aged 16 to 21 in making long-term lifestyle changes to become fitter, healthier and happier.

Nicole joined the Rotherham Slimming World group in January 2013 and has since lost 4st 3.5lbs.

Adam, who joined the Crookes Slimming World group in July 2013, has lost a total of 5st,

And Grace is 8st 2lbs lighter since joining the Barnsley Slimming World group in February 2013.

The slimmers’ fellow group members voted for the trio to represent them in the Young Slimmer of the Year competition and each were invited to the semi-finals at Slimming World’s head office in Alfreton.

They met Olympic gold medal swimmer Rebecca Adlington, who made the day extra special for the youngsters taking part.

Rebecca said: “Teenagers and young people get a bad reputation because we think of them all sitting in front of the TV or a computer.

“But the young slimmers I met have shown that their health is important to them and that given the right tools it is possible to make positive changes whatever your age.”
