INEQUALITIES in health spending have been highlighted by a South Yorkshire MP.
Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey revealed that Rotherham receives £53 in public health grant per person, and Barnsley £58.
Meanwhile in Kensington and Chelsea – where men are expected to live eight years longer and women nine or 10 years longer – the grant is £130 per person.
The money goes from the government to local councils to promote healthy living and prevent illness.
Mr Healey has written to health secretary Jeremy Hunt asking him to look again at the ‘unfair’ allocations and called for more money for his constituency.
Ministers dispute the accuracy of Mr Healey’s figures.
