A pub landlord from Sheffield who fought cancer has taken his fundraising total to £16,000 after dedicating himself to helping fellow sufferers.

Gareth Williams, aged 38, runs the Union Hotel in Nether Edge along with wife Sarah, and has organised a range of charity activities over the last four years - the most recent being a moustache-growing event.

All of the proceeds have gone to Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, which Gareth said was an ‘incredible and vital facility’.

Gareth was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2010, and underwent chemotherapy at the hospital.

“My cancer diagnosis came as a complete shock,” said Gareth.

“You honestly think it will never happen to you. Year-on-year we vowed to continue raising money.”

Sarah, also a nursing sister at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, already has plans to produce a calendar this year featuring work colleagues, while Gareth will lead a team at the Run in the Park race in Graves Park.

Weston Park fundraiser Sarah Cross said the couple had raised a ‘fantastic amount’.
