A Sheffield consultant who first described how painful nerve damage among diabetics is caused by impaired circulation has been awarded one of medicine’s most coveted international prizes.

Prof Solomon Tesfaye, an endocrinologist at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, is the first person in the UK in 11 years to receive the Camillo Golgi Prize. He said the win was a ‘dream come true’.
