Former pupils took a trip back in time to their school dinners when a Sheffield academy took part in the Great Pie and Peas Up.

Scores of old pupils from Parkwood Academy - also known as Shirecliffe Secondary, Herries School and Parkwood High over the years - sat down to a hearty lunch to raise money for The Star’s campaign in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.

Last year a similar dinner raised £400 - and organisers are hoping to have topped that figure once final donations are tallied up.

Residents, businesses, pubs, restaurants and community groups got involved in the campaign by serving up pies and peas to help fund St Luke’s new £5 million inpatient unit.

The charity is now urging people to send in proceeds from their meals so the money can be put to good use.

Director of fundraising Una Moran said: “In a project that is costing us £5m to complete, every penny really does count and we thank everybody who has either organised or attended an event for their support, because they really are making a difference to the lives of all our patients and their families.

“That’s why, having held an event, fundraisers should now get money in to us as soon as possible please.”
