Pupils and parents from a Sheffield primary set off on two wheels for the journey to school today.
The students from Abbey Lane Primary School were celebrating the Tour de France’s arrival in South Yorkshire.
A peloton of 15 children in brightly-coloured tops and cycling gear completed the ‘Tour de Beauchief’ in less than 30 minutes.
The route included the steep incline on Strelley Avenue and a fast descent down Roxton Road.
There was no yellow jersey at the end, just literacy and numeracy awaited but the enthusiastic children, led by keen cyclist and dad Neil Bentley were cheered along the route with cries of ‘Allez le Tour’ from parents, children and passers-by.
Organiser Philippa Thompson said: “It feels really important to celebrate and mark sporting occasions as special as this. “The children had a great time, created some memories and can say they ‘took part’ in their own way.”
