Plans to look at ‘living wage’

BOSSES at Doncaster Royal Infirmary have not ruled out bringing in the living wage – despite a story in yesterday’s Star stating any such plan had been discounted.

Campaigners want a so-called ‘living wage’ of £7.45 an hour. Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust says the £7.24 minimum it pays is more than the £7.20 ‘living wage’ Sheffield Council plans to bring in in January.

The trust said the first two points on its pay scale had hourly rates of £7.24 and £7.42 respectively – more than the national minimum wage but less than the proposed living wage.

Staff on these scales receive extra on top of their basic salary if they work unsocial hours. A spokesman said: “We plan to look at the living wage and related issues in coming months.”
