A SOUTH Yorkshire Olympian is offering people the chance to get fit and trim in 2013 by offering them free diet and fitness advice – in their own homes.

Doncaster taekwondo star Sarah Stevenson has set up a website called The Fitness Project which features simple 15-minute workouts and healthy recipes and diet advice created by her nutritionist.

It’s free to register and the site is updated weekly with training videos for beginners and those who already work out.

The venture combines her experience and expertise with input from her strength and conditioning coach Neil Parsley and her sports nutritionist and dietician Debra Tranter.

The world champion martial artist, who read the oath on behalf of the athletes at the London Olympics, said the long-term aim was to develop an app, so sport is accessible to anyone and can fit into people’s daily routines.

Sarah, aged 29, from Bentley, won bronze at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 but was knocked out in the qualifying stages of the London 2012 Olympic Games. She’d done well even to make it to the mat after overcoming the most horrendous year of her life, tragically losing both parents – to a brain tumour and cancer – within a four- month period in 2011.

Speaking about the Fitness Project, Sarah, who said she is determined to pass on her love of sport to others, said: “We found people just don’t have the time to train. This gives people at home the opportunity to train with an Olympic athlete when and where they can.

“It’s a great opportunity, but first we have to get people signed up online and then we can develop it further.”

The workouts are not sport specific.

Sarah said: “I did some of the workouts with my family in the park. I’ve got one cousin who’s 18, and my auntie who’s 60, which proves everyone can do it – we don’t want to alienate anyone.”
