Health chiefs in Chesterfield have unveiled a new clinic for children who need rapid access to urgent care.
The clinic, in a special children’s area called The Den at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, will be open from Monday to Friday from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
It is accessed by GP referral and all children will be seen by a paediatric consultant within 48 hours. Before now, a child needing urgent attention but not emergency treatment had to be referred to the hospital’s paediatric unit, causing delays and potential ward admission.
Research by the NHS North Derbyshire and Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Group showed that many children who attended the Nightingale Ward were not being kept in overnight and could therefore have been seen in an outpatient clinic.
