A CREATIVE art project, devised by NHS staff in Doncaster, is being held up as a health success story.
The Get Ready, Get Involved project, run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust, was run to improve the ward environment for inpatients at Doncaster’s adult mental health unit, at St Catherine’s Hospital in Balby.
Now it has been showcased as an example of best innovative practice at the Healthcare Innovation Expo 2013 in London.
It saw patients and staff create a collection of 24 individual pieces of artwork for permanent display on inpatient wards.
Clinical lead occupational therapist Sweetline Burnell said: “There is growing evidence that the physical environment of care plays a significant role in the health and wellbeing of the patient. Our project provided everyone involved with an opportunity to develop a sense of ownership of the ward environment, forge closer links with the community as well as giving them the confidence to be creative.”
RDaSH was one of 250 companies and organisations from all around the world on show at the exhibition.
