A mum from Sheffield is taking her birthday celebrations to new heights – raising thousands for charity in the process.
Becky Boynton, from Grenoside, is tackling a six-day trek over the Himalayas to raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Her sponsorship target was just under £3,000 – but so far she has raised more than £4,000.
The hospice, in North Anston, cares for three of her friends’ children – and Becky is about to turn 40 and wanted to mark the occasion.
She will fly out to Delhi next week with 30 other walkers to begin the 85km journey over the mountains.
Becky, mum to five-year-old son Will, has been training hard in the Lake District.
She said: “I really can’t wait to take part, it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity and an excellent way to mark my 40th birthday.
“I chose to support Bluebell Wood as it holds a special place in my heart. Three of my friends use its services and I know the support is invaluable to them.”
Hospice community fundraiser Gail Parkin said: “Most people usually celebrate their 40th birthday with a party, not a six-day walk halfway across the world. I’d like to thank Becky for taking part in this incredible challenge.”
