Sheffield MP David Blunkett is encouraging residents to get their blood pressure checked as part of a national health drive.
The Labour MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough is backing Blood Pressure UK’s Know Your Numbers week, in which free checking stations are being set up in the city.
Adults in Sheffield are being called upon to seize the opportunity for a free, quick and painless blood pressure check.
The aim of the week is for people to become as familiar with their blood pressure numbers as their height and weight.
Former Home Secretary Mr Blunkett said: “I got to know my numbers almost 20 years ago, when I discovered that high blood pressure was the cause of my dizziness.
“Knowing the truth helps you do something about it and continue life as normal, even when under the most enormous pressure – as I was in my eight years in government.
“It is good common sense to get checked out and put things right before it’s too late.”
There will be pressure stations at ASDA Pharmacy, Chaucer Road, Parson Cross and Associated Chemist, Wicker Pharmacy, Wicker, this week.
