Julie takes a bite out of Big Apple

Julie Turner wins 2,000 on the St Luke's Hospice lottery

Julie Turner and her family are heading to the Big Apple after scooping the £2,000 top prize in Play Local, the St Luke’s Hospice Lottery!

Julie, who lives in Loxley, Sheffield, joined the popular lottery in 2011 but took out a second number in February, when she decided to increase her support for the city’s only hospice.

And it was that new number that won her the big weekly prize – and now means that she and the family, husband Mark and 17-year-old son Sam, can look forward to an unforgettable New York break.

“I still can’t believe it,” she admitted. “I’ve won £5 before but I never thought I’d win this amount and I’m so grateful.

“My husband and I had to close the family business 18 months ago due to the recession, and it’s been about six years since we had a proper holiday.

“I mean, we had four days camping in Wales last year, but it’s not the same! So this means so much to us.”

Julie has supported St Luke’s since her mother was cared for there in 1987, when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of just 49.
