A £1.8m development to improve day surgery in Doncaster has officially opened its doors.

The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals development comprises a new-build day surgery unit, modernised and relocated theatre admissions unit and a refurbished children’s surgical unit.

Each has been designed to create a calming atmosphere for their patients.

It was officially opened by Dr Mark Skues, Immediate Past President of the British Association of Day Surgery, who said: “I am delighted to be here and to see the day case facilities that Doncaster has to offer.

“Day surgery is an essential service, providing a flexible approach for both patients and surgeons, freeing up valuable bed space on the inpatients wards.”

The Unit’s modern facilities mean that Doncaster has the flexibility to perform a range of surgical procedures using lasers and keyhole surgical techniques, whereby patients can recover more quickly.
