A campaign to protect health services in Rotherham against a merger with another local hospital trust is being backed by Labour’s shadow health secretary.
Andy Burnham was set to meet supporters of the Save Our Services campaign, including staff and trade union representatives, during a visit to the town today.
Thousands of residents have signed a petition against moves to cut £50m from Rotherham Hospital’s budget.
The trust’s board of directors are set to agree a ‘recovery plan’ next week, setting out how services should be organised.
Bosses are having to consider merging with another hospital.
“Rotherham is sending a really strong message to the Government to put patient care first,” said Mr Burnham.
