Good sports in fundraising feat

GOLF lovers showed they are on the ball when it comes to fundraising by collecting £1,260 for a cancer charity.

Rotherham’s Saxon Golf Society organised a series of events for Macmillan Cancer Support in South Yorkshire after a member was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The group donated proceeds from its annual golf day at Rother Valley Golf centre in Wales Bar and held other fundraising activities throughout the year to reach the total.

A separate donation also went to the Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Association.

Paul Joynes, a member of the society, said: “Over the last few years, we have had the sad circumstance of losing two past members, one to a brain tumour and one to a cancer-related illness.

“A member was struck down with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and we’ve been raising funds towards the association and also the care Macmillan nurses provided.”
