Get active with new Sheffield scheme for unfit people

A new scheme has been launched to encourage people who do no exercise at all to get active.

Sheffield’s Sport and Physical Activity Scheme is aimed at people living a completely sedentary lifestyle.

It will support them in achieving one session of at least 30 minutes’ sport or physical activity per week.

Justin Preston of Activity Sheffield, which is running the scheme, said: “The aim of the scheme is to reduce the number of sedentary and inactive individuals in Sheffield by motivating them to build sport and physical activity into their everyday lives.

“You can try a range of activities from walking, swimming and dancing to football, badminton, golf and many more. We will endeavour to find any activity you may want to try. All of the activities will be free or low cost.”

The support sessions will be held on a weekly basis for three months, and then every three months for a year.

The sessions are held at Wisewood Sports Centre on Mondays from 11am to 1pm, and Hillsborough Leisure Centre on Fridays from 10.30am to 12.30pm. There is a £2 fee.
