Cash grant for city Mencap

SHEFFIELD Mencap has been awarded a grant of £155,800 to fund its work supporting older carers who have children with learning disabilities.

The cash was awarded by Lloyds TSB Foundation for England And Wales as part of its Older People’s funding programme

Lucy McKane, head of fundraising at Sheffield Mencap, said: “Many carers over the age of 65 are struggling to cope with changes to the benefit system and housing policies.

“As a result, many can face huge stress due to full time caring responsibilities.

“With this funding we will be able to support isolated older families and build trusting relationships, enabling them to feel confident to discuss concerns and find enduring solutions.”

Pat Greenwood, grant manager for Yorkshire and the Humber at the Lloyds TSB Foundation, said: “The foundation’s £2.1 million new funding programme will help to encourage empowerment and independence for older people. There are many charities that are doing innovative work with older people and we are proud to support such pro-active work.”
