Campaigners take hospital petition to Prime Minister

Campaigners have delivered a 2,500-signature petition to Downing Street calling on the Government to do more to support a South Yorkshire hospital.

Members of the Unison trade union, as well as MPs John Healey and Kevin Barron, travelled to London yesterday with the document, which was signed by people concerned about the future of Rotherham Hospital.

Health chiefs in the town need to cut £50 million from the hospital trust’s budget, and a report on how services will be run will be agreed on Thursday, December 19.

Mr Healey said: “The government has taken billions of pounds away from frontline service, and put competition laws ahead of patient care. We’ve already begun to see the impact in Rotherham. We will keep fighting for our local services.”
