Staff and players from Sheffield United are set to host a special fundraising tea party and baking challenge to support a city cancer charity.

The Time for Tea event - in aid of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity’s campaign of the same name - is happening on Friday, before the last game of the Football League season.

Cakes and buns will be prepared by the players’ wives and girlfriends, and served to the squad and coaching staff by Blades boss Nigel Clough, coach Chris Morgan, a patron of the charity, and captain Michael Doyle.

A panel of players and coaches will then do a ‘taste-test’ with the winner handed a trophy on Saturday at the Coventry City game.

Dave McCarthy, operations director at Sheffield United, said: “We are excited to be hosting the Time for Tea event at our training ground to show support and hopefully encourage other football fans in the city to arrange their own fundraising event for what is such a worthy cause.

“A number of the player’s partners have already been practicing their baking skills in preparation for the day and I am sure the players will appreciate their partners’ efforts after their final training session of the campaign.”

Sarah Cross, charity fundraiser at Weston Park, said: “It’s great that Sheffield United has got behind the campaign. We hope that their participation will encourage others to hold their very own tea party to raise vital funds for the charity.”
