£320,000 upgrade for city respite care home

A Sheffield respite care home has completed a £320,000 upgrade to provide both patients and visitors with better facilities.

Longley Meadows, set in the grounds of the Northern General Hospital, has installed specialist furniture and new sensory and multi-faith rooms.

The nine bed centre with 24-hour nursing run by Sheffield Health and Social Care Foundation Trust has been improved following feedback from its users.

It provides short break accommodation for 36 people with profound intellectual disabilities and complex health conditions.

A further £70,000 enabled the trust to fund additional items such as specialist chairs, benches and postural equipment to assist the work of the unit’s trained staff.
