A PARALYMPIC hopeful will be getting on her bike for a special tour raising funds and awareness of the three main spinal injuries units in the north.
Karen Darke, who was left paralysed from the chest down following a rock climbing accident aged 21, will finish her Fit 2 Wheel adventure in Sheffield, after starting in Middlesbrough and visiting Wakefield.
The 39-year-old will be sponsored on her tour, which will see her visit the units to talk about her experiences, by Sheffield health care company B Braun Medical Ltd.
Karen said: “I hope the talks at each of the spinal units will perhaps inspire some people facing the initial challenges of paralysis to see that fun, adventure and physical fitness are all still possible.”
She will also be raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance with the four-day tour, which begins on Tuesday June 28 and finishes in Sheffield on July 1.
