A MARRIED factory manager was so worried after having sex with two women at his works Christmas party he hanged himself 12 days later, an inquest heard.
Father-of-two Nigel Ball, of Swinton, near Rotherham, was so worried he might have contracted a sexually transmitted disease he toured doctors surgeries and hospitals to seek reassurance in the days afterwards.
Despite telling his wife Marie about the ‘one-off’ event the 45-year-old production manager worked himself up into a panic and feared for the future of his marriage, his children and his job.
Det Con Craig Britland, told the Rotherham inquest Mr Ball suspected he had an STD after liaisons with two women at the party.
He went to numerous doctors and the hospital outlining different symptoms with ‘different levels of disclosure about what happened on the night’.
The officer told the hearing: “I formed the opinion that Nigel Ball had got himself into such a panic and was extremely worried and anxious about the repercussions of his actions on his wife, his family and his job. It was clear he was suffering underlying stress and got himself worked up.”
Coroner Nicola Mundy recorded a verdict of suicide and said: “He was clearly anxious about how his marriage, his family life and work would effectively fall apart and it continued to prey on his mind.”
