STIR fries and smoothies were on the menu for staff at Sheffield Children’s Hospital who have launched a new initiative designed to keep workers happy and healthy.

There were cooking and massage demonstrations along with freebies to show how the trust’s new staff-led Health and Wellbeing group plans to support its workforce.

Chris Sharratt, chief executive of Sheffield Children’s Hospital, even ditched his office for the staff lounge and saddled up on a gym bike to back the bid.

He said: “It was a great event where people were clearly thrilled to see what’s now on offer thanks to our new group.

“Going to the gym, can seem daunting but it’s not all about being super fit, it’s about improving your health in a manageable way.”

Greens Health and Fitness provided the bike and Sainsbury’s provided the cooking demonstrations.

Janice Hextall, 50, who works on the delicatessen counter at Sainsbury’s on the Moor in Sheffield, showed visitors and staff how to produce a fresh fruit smoothie.

The 50-year-old said: “Everyone was very keen to try the healthy foods.”
