HOSPITAL bosses have spent £150,000 developing a second ultrasound suite at the Montagu Hospital in Mexborough.
The scheme replaces former X-ray equipment with new electronic versions which bosses say brings it into the 21st century.
The equipment has been put in an extended and refurbished former dental X-ray room. It is the second ultrasound suite at the hospital.
The digital equipment is much more efficient as the image appears on a monitor as the exposure is taking place and is available to view within seconds.
A former preparation room has now been made into a new dental suite, with specialist machines replacing equipment that was 10 years old, for which it was becoming hard to source spare parts.
Consultant orthodontist Ann Holmes said: “I had a demonstration of the new equipment and was very impressed with possibilities that the new equipment opens up to us, allowing us to minimise the radiation dosage while maximising the clinical information available.”
