PARKING fees are to be increased for patients and visitors at a Chesterfield hospital.
Prices for most people visiting Chesterfield Royal Hostpial are to go up on Friday by 30p or 40p - with the cost of a one-hour ticket rising from 90p to £1.20, two hours from £1.50 to £1.90, three hours from £2.40 to £2.80, and over four hours from £4.40 to £4.80.
Hospital managers say income generated from parking fees will continue to support the hospital’s security services, car park maintenance and development, road-marking projects and other related building schemes.
Andrew Jones, hospital facilities director, said: “Now the main entrance rebuild is signed off and complete, we need to have a robust parking policy in place to support fire safety – one that will ensure access for emergency services is always clear. Parking income will also contribute to this sort of work.
The first 30 minutes remain free of charge and blue-badge holders do not pay.
A longer-term parking pass - allowing 14 visits to the site - can be bought from the patient accounts office in the main entrance, priced £11.40.
Parking prices for staff at the hospital, who pay monthly fees, are rising with inflation at a rate of 3.5 per cent.
