drug and alcohol awareness training is being offered to organisations around Rotherham by the NHS Know the Score initiative.
Based on Effingham Street in the centre of Rotherham, Know the Score is run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust.
The project aims to ensure organisations working with youngsters know how to spot signs of drug misuse and can then offer appropriate help.
The training has been delivered to Rotherham Council, youth coaching staff from Rotherham United Football Club plus volunteers and full-time staff in young people’s services across Rotherham.
RDaSH team leader Neil Power said: “The sessions have been very well received.
“The training enables other professionals to deliver harm reduction interventions themselves, so they can feel more confident in discussing drugs and alcohol with young people in an open way and can signpost them to get help.
“Research shows that harm reduction at an early stage can dramatically and positively change drug taking and alcohol misuse habits.”
Management of Know the Score has been transferred from the NHS trust’s Substance Misuse Services into Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services, in line with national guidance.
Mental health staff and substance misuse staff are now based in the same offices ensuring a more seamless service.
Organisations interested in receiving training through Know The Score are encouraged to get in touch.
