Heart unit’s Trust backing

MEDICAL workers in Sheffield have thrown their support behind a campaign to save a Yorkshire heart surgery unit which is threatened with closure.

The Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has given its backing to the drive to keep the Leeds Cardiac Unit open.

Simon Morritt, the trust’s chief executive, said he was ‘very concerned’ about the possible impact of the closure, while director of nursing John Reid said shutting the unit would create a ‘significant travel burden’ for families.
