A COMMUNITY health service in South Yorkshire has been shortlisted in a prestigious national award scheme.
The Barnsley community equipment service, which is run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, provides health equipment for people in the community.
The service has been shortlisted at Health Service Journal efficiency awards in the efficiency in transportation and logistics category.
The Barnsley service has recently designed and developed an innovative decontamination unit, thought to be the first of its kind in the NHS.
The modular system means the service can provide decontamination, warehousing and transportation facilities for a range of NHS services in South Yorkshire.
Operational manager Wayne Bendelow said: “Efficient, high-quality community services are essential for staff including district nurses, GPs and physiotherapists.
“Now it’s fingers crossed for the awards ceremony in September.”
