Fundraisers’ daredevil feat

Friends Tony Cosens and Chris Jones threw themselves into supporting a great cause and raised more than £1,000 for St Luke’s Hospice.

The Sheffield Vulcan Rotary Club members both signed up to take part in the hospice’s Triple Whammy Challenge – three exhilarating adventures under one roof in one day.

The action-packed day at the Abyss at Magna featured three stunts for participants to complete. The Zip Wire is a 250ft long ride from a height of 70ft, extending across the historic melting pots of the Magna steelworks.

For the Free Abseil participants climb 150ft up the inside of the building and then descend from a platform.

And finally the Powerfan is a freefall off a 150ft platform, with just the force of a powerfan for a soft landing.

Tony said: “While Chris and I did the deed, the challenge was in fact a Rotary Club of Sheffield Vulcan event and was the club’s way of supporting St Luke’s. Even at 69 I would like to do it again!”
