ASDA stores in Sheffield are offering customers free diabetes checks.
The number of cases of the condition is on the rise but around one in ten Brits don’t understand what it is and how it harms health.
Research has found around 55 per cent of people don’t see the condition as a health threat and around 850,000 people in the UK have the condition but it is undiagnosed.
Faisal Tuddy, deputy superintendent pharmacist at Asda, said: “It is worrying to discover people still aren’t clued up to the causes of diabetes, especially when statistics from Diabetes UK and the NHS prove we’re a nation at risk.
“We offer free blood glucose screening and advice to our shoppers.”
The test is free and available at all Asda pharmacies.
