AN inspirational great-grandma who brought her diamond wedding anniversary celebrations forward after receiving a diagnosis of terminal cancer lived to mark the milestone with her husband of 60 years.
Lily Jennings also celebrated her 82nd birthday and spent her last Christmas with her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
But her battle against the disease has now ended after she died peacefully at home in Parson Cross surrounded by her family, including husband John.
Last year, Lily brought forward her 60th wedding anniversary bash - held at Bramall Lane in April - after being diagnosed with stomach and bone cancer.
But despite the illness, she lived to see the day of the anniversary - receiving a congratulatory card from the Queen.
Daughter Diane Bamforth, from Shiregreen, said: “She made so many special memories over the last year which we are now so grateful for. We had the big party in April and then every week from then on she did something else she wanted to do - whether that was fish and chips by the sea in Cleethorpes or a shopping trip to Meadowhall.
“She certainly made every day count.”
Lily’s funeral is on Wednesday at Grenoside Crematorium at 11am. Donations to Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust. Send cheques payable to SHCT to John Fairest Funeral Directors, 10-56 Penistone Road North.
