It’s 20 miles from St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield to Barnsley Hospice… and the Baker family are aiming to link the two with a special sponsored walk.
They hope the September 1 event will raise at least £2,000 for the two hospices, both of which have touched the family’s lives.
The walk is being organised by 57-year-old Colin Baker, a manufacturing manager who lives with wife Gillian in Winter Avenue, Royston, Barnsley, and family and friends will stride out in support of the hospice movement.
Colin was inspired after seeing at first hand the impact the two hospices have had on the family.
“We lost Debbie, my brother Christopher’s partner, to cancer in October 2008 in St Luke’s Hospice, and then, just 12 days later, we lost our older brother Tony to cancer in Barnsley Hospice,” Colin said.
Already the family has raised more than £400 and Chris is confident they will raise the full target once the walk is completed.
