A CAR smashed into the outpatients department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, leaving a hole in the wall of the eye clinic.
Eyewitnesses said a driver came out of the multi-storey car park at 3.30pm and failed to turn, smashing into the wall of the building opposite.
Two fire crews attended the scene and an ambulance took the driver to accident and emergency, although she is not thought to have been badly hurt.
A bypasser said: “The car smashed into the wall, leaving a massive hole and blowing some of the water pipes on the other side.
“The driver walked away from the scene, but the paramedics checked her over.”
Chris Morley, deputy chief nurse of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, said: “Services at the clinic were not affected nor was access to the car park or A road.”
