Pet rescue volunteers at a South Yorkshire charity have had to deal with a ‘horrendous case of neglect’.

Rain Rescue say a mongrel dog they have named Yogi was brought in with mange and rotting skin.

Volunteer Louise Gadsby said: “Words can’t describe our thoughts when we saw this poor, pitiful boy.

“They also can’t describe the stench of his eaten away and rotten little body.

“Yogi is a horrendous case of neglect and the sad thing is he is just one of so many cases.”

She added: “Yogi has been given a wash, had his rotten hair cut away and the rest cleaned, his eyes were bathed and the infection and matter washed away from them, his skin soothed and he has been placed on pain relief medication.”

He was being seen by a vet yesterday.

Up to last month, Rotherham-based Rain Rescue has rehomed 185 dogs and has around 20 animals on its books needing new homes.

Louise added that the charity is continuing to appeal for financial support from the public.

She said: “Small rescues like ours go into dog pounds and get the dogs like Yogi and many more that desperately need help.

“We help dogs that need to be rescued so much.

“We have wonderful volunteers and supporters but we really need people to continue to help us.

“Dogs like Yogi are the reason we need to be able to continue and to survive.”
