Doctor’s call for tumour research
A FORMER GP diagnosed with a brain tumour is campaigning for the Government to increase funding for research into the condition.
Dr Vetrivel Velamail, a former GP at Morthen Road Surgery in Rotherham, first noticed something might be wrong in 2009 when his mood altered and his vision began to deteriorate. A CT scan revealed he was suffering from a brain tumour.
Dr Velamail is now urging people to sign an online petition to persuade MPs to hold a parliamentary debate on how best to raise awareness and funding for those affected by brain tumours.
Campaigners say brain tumour research is around 12 years behind other types of cancer research, and more funding is needed.
