Visitors to a Sheffield superstore are to get the chance to add a trip to the dentist to their shopping list.
A seven-day-a-week private dental surgery will become part of Sainsbury’s off Archer Road, Millhouses, from October 1.
In a deal with The Centre for Dentistry, surgeries opened in five Sainsbury’s elsewhere in the UK last year, and now council approval has been given for one at ground level in the Millhouses branch. Expected opening hours will be 8.30am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm Saturday, and 11am to 3pm Sunday, by appointment only.
The company says it is aiming to meet demand from patients who cannot find an NHS dentist - and it is argued the flexible hours are encouraging people who have not had their teeth checked for a long time.
About 10 people are expected to work at the centre, including two dentists, a hygienist and two consultant dermatologists.
The centre says that since new NHS dental contracts were introduced, many dentists have opted to go private.
