A target to get 3,000 “dementia friends” in Doncaster has been met – six months ahead of schedule.

A target was set of 3,000 new Doncaster Dementia Friends by March 31, 2015 when the campaign launched in May.

The target has now been met – more than six months early – and the majority of the new dementia friends have completed face-to-face training.

The Doncaster Dementia Strategic Partnership, supported by the Doncaster Dementia Action Alliance, is working hard to help the town become a dementia-friendly community.

The DDSP, along with other members of the Action Alliance, is supporting the national dementia friends campaign which is encouraging people to become a dementia friend.

Dr Tony Baxter, Doncaster Council director of public health, said: “Dementia friends is an important part of our work with our partners to help people live well with dementia and our work towards Doncaster becoming a dementia-friendly community.

“It is fantastic to hear that we have already reached our target of 3,000 new Doncaster dementia friends ahead of schedule.”
