SOUTH Yorkshire’s own cycling star Ben Swift is to join the cast of TV soap Emmerdale for part of a 224-mile pedal power challenge to raise £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Ben, aged 23, from Rotherham, is currently riding in his first ever Tour de France.
On August 19 he will join Emmerdale stars on a ride from The Woolpack to rival EastEnders pub The Queen Vic in just 24 hours.
Ben said: “I am delighted to be helping the guys with this as it is such a special ride for them and for a very worthy cause.
“It will be a huge achievement for them to finish this in such a short time and I am really pleased that I can offer my moral support.”
The Emmerdale cyclists will be Rik Makarem who plays Nikhil Sharma, Kelvin Fletcher who plays Andy Sugden, James Thornton who plays John Barton, Tom Lister who plays Carl King, and the show’s executive producer Steve November.
The team are cycling in memory of their producer, the late Gavin Blyth, who died aged 41 from cancer last year.
