A Coronation Street star took time away from the cobbles to visit a Sheffield hospital to give his backing to a fundraising appeal for a new helipad.
Joe Duttine, who plays window cleaner Tim Metcalfe - Sally Webster’s partner - in the TV soap is giving his support to a plan to build a new helipad at the Northern General Hospital.
Patients currently flown to the hospital have to be transferred to an ambulance and driven to the main doors.
It is hoped by having a helipad closer to the building will reduce delays in patients receiving life saving treatment.
Actor Joe, aged 44, from Sheffield, has got involved with raising the profile of the fundraising campaign after being airlifted to the hospital himself last month after an accident when he was out walking.
His wife Nisa, 41, is also an A&E nurse at the hospital.
Joe said: “I knew about the appeal from Nisa and how much this matters to her and everyone in A&E, but after experiencing being airlifted first-hand it really brought home to me how important this helipad is and the life-saving service it provides.”
Nisa said: “As a nurse, I understand that time is of the essence in life-critical situations like trauma.
“My experience of getting that phone call and knowing that my husband had been injured just brought it to life for me in a completely different way, and all you want is to know that they’re getting to the treatment they need as soon as possible.“
The new helipad will cost around £2 million.
