A SHEFFIELD-based Euro MP has backed health campaigners who held a day to raise awareness of heart disease and strokes.
Yorkshire and the Humber Labour MEP, Linda McAvan, wife of Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield, marked World Heart Day by pledging to ensure the European Parliament ‘does all it can’ to reduce the causes of heart disease.
She said: “Cardiovascular disease causes thousands of deaths in Yorkshire and the Humber every single year.
“In the European Parliament we are demanding more money is invested in prevention rather than simply reacting to ill health. I am determined to keep pressuring the EU into investigating methods that reduce the levels of preventable illnesses and death from cardiovascular diseases.”
