CARERS who help people to become more independent have been named the best in the country at a national awards ceremony.
The Care Team from Sun Healthcare in Barnsley scooped the accolade at the National Care Awards and were presented with their prize by Daybreak presenter Kate Garraway in a ceremony at the Royal Courts of Justice.
They were successful in the Yorkshire and Humber round of the competition last year and went on to the national final where they were picked out as overall winners.
Judges were impressed with the service, set up only two years ago, which provides 24 hour care at the same time as working with clients to promote independence with a view to gradually reducing the amount of help they need.
The 35-strong team is headed up by senior support staff are Lorraine White, Paula Jackson, Adele Rennard and Phil Hough and managed by Donna Holmes and Lee Watson.
Donna said: “We were told we had won due to our enthusiasm, tenacity and caring attitudess, and the excellent testimonials the judges had received.”
