NHS campaigners have secured the backing of South Yorkshire MP Kevin Barron after taking part in a national day of action.
Members of the group 38 Degrees met the Rother Valley MP after staging a protest in Dinnington against an international trade deal which they say could put the NHS at risk,
Group member Glyn Challinor said Mr Barron had shown great interest in the issue.
“We talked to people in the library, in cafes and at the Tesco store about this EU deal, which would force the NHS open to competition from American private healthcare providers,” he said.
“The day was all about raising awareness of this issue - many people know nothing about it as the whole thing is quite secretive.”
Nationally 138,000 people have signed a petition.
