Volunteers are being urged to help Sheffield become one of the first ‘dementia-friendly cities’.
A new appeal aims to recruit people to support a relative or friend affected by the condition, point people to more information, or volunteer with a local charity.
There are more than 6,565 people in Sheffield with dementia – expected to rise to 7,345 by 2020.
Sheffield Council director of public health Jeremy Wight said: “Sheffield’s network of friends will play a crucial role in helping us create a dementia friendly city where people living with the disease can lead more independent lives.
“I hope many individuals and local businesses sign up and do their part.”
