A series of events and activities for patients, staff and visitors is planned at Barnsley Hospital to mark the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Awareness Week.
The aim of the programme, which begins on May 18, is to raise awareness and get people talking about dementia.
All staff will be given the opportunity to attend ‘dementia friends’ sessions giving them the chance to think about dementia care and how they can help to create a dementia friendly community.
The sessions will be attended by a member of staff from the hospital along with a representative from the Alzheimer’s Society who will be on hand to answer any questions.
Ward 19 has a Sugar Cube Café – a place open to patients, their visitors and staff. The concept is to help improve the wellbeing of patients by encouraging mobility and better nutrition and to provide the opportunity to engage in conversation and activities. On Thursday, May 22, it will be open to the public, 10am to 4pm.
