TELEVISION star Richard McCourt – of Dick and Dom fame – was special guest at the official launch of Sheffield Mencap’s newly-refurbished sports hall.
The Sheffield-born star cut the ribbon at the £90,000 refurbished hall, which will allow the charity to put on activities such as indoor football, line dancing and yoga for people with learning difficulties at their site in Norfolk Park.
Chief executive Janet Sullivan said: “At Norfolk Lodge, we are fortunate to have a large sports hall.
“However, it was built in 1974 and since then there has been little renovation.
“It was in desperate need of major repairs – the most significant issue was the roof which leaked in several places, causing serious safety issues for our members.
“The heating and lighting were poor and the hall was not used as much as it should be during the winter as it is too cold.”
The charity embarked on a major refurbishment of the centre, including replacing the floor.
Janet said: “At Sheffield Mencap we promote sport and exercise and healthy living.
“The new sports hall will allow us to resume activities which benefit our members.”
