Fundraisers from a leading cancer charity are urging people across South Yorkshire to host a tea party in their honour this summer to raise cash to support their work.

Staff and volunteers from Marie Curie Cancer Care organised their own Mad Hatter’s Tea Party as part of the organisation’s Blooming Great Tea Party campaign – and are hoping people across the region will follow their example.

Last year people in Sheffield raised more than £3,500 when they brewed up as part of the initiative, helping Marie Curie Nurses provide a much-needed 175 hours of care to terminally ill people in local communities.

This year fundraisers are appealing to tea and coffee lovers to help them double last year’s total.

Liz Howlett, from the charity, said: “Having a tea party is such an easy way to get together with friends and family.

“So whether it’s a small get together at home, a garden party taking advantage of the lovely weather we’ve been promised, an extended coffee break at work or a bit of a bigger bash for the whole community, holding a Blooming Great Tea Party couldn’t be simpler.”
